- The Russian Academy of Sciences assessed the resistance of Russian space electronics to a nuclear explosion
Russian onboard electronics for spacecraft are designed to be affected by various factors, including the damaging factors of a nuclear explosion. This was announced on October 13 by Gennady Krasnikov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
"Today, our element base is ready for all impact factors, including a nuclear explosion," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to Krasnikov, when developing systems for deep space, it is important not only to ensure the movement of spacecraft and the safety of crews, but also to ensure the stable operation of on-board electronics in difficult conditions. The equipment must withstand several types of impacts at once, the academician noted.
A unique infrastructure is used in Russia to conduct radiation tests of electronic products. According to the website of the Scientific and Production Association "Luch", specialists use the linear induction electron accelerator LIU-10, the design of which is constantly optimized to improve the uniformity of the braking radiation field.
In addition, the Interdepartmental Distributed Radiation Testing Center ECB (MRCRI) operates in the structure of the Rosatom State Corporation, the main purpose of which is to assess the compliance of electronics with specified resistance requirements.
On October 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that it was important for Russia to continue building up the capabilities of its orbital satellite constellation in space. He noted that the Space Forces ensure the operation of communication and navigation systems, as well as transmit the necessary data to the Armed Forces. Putin also stressed the contribution of Russian designers, scientists, engineers, testers and military specialists to the creation of the country's rocket and space potential.
