Near Tomsk, a bear could maul a woman after her death.
The death of a woman whose body was found on October 8 near the village of Lyazgino, Tomsk region, probably occurred before the encounter with the bear. The predator could have inflicted the damage posthumously. This was reported to RIA Tomsk on October 13 by a source familiar with the situation.
"Previously, the bear's injuries are (most likely) postmortem," the agency's source said.
Currently, investigators are continuing to establish the exact circumstances of the woman's death. Despite the new data on the nature of the injuries, the search for the predator in the Lyazgino area does not stop. Alexander Shlapakov, Chairman of the Wildlife Conservation Committee, said that an ambush of hunters was operating in the forest.
"Judging by the thermal imager, it is presumably a large individual. He is quite cunning, secretive [...]. The bear apparently sensed that hunters were sitting there — there is an ambush every evening — but so far he has not come there again," explained Shlapakov.
The bear population in the Tomsk Region reached 11,000 individuals by the autumn of 2026. Due to forest fires and lack of food, animals began to come out to populated areas more often. The region has been on high alert since September 25. According to official data, three people have become victims of predators this season (excluding the incident in Lyazgino). The authorities announced the payment of remuneration in the amount of 30 thousand rubles for each captured bear.Going to Lyazgino, predator attack on humans
