Amur tiger kills man in British park
In the British Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster, an Amur tiger named Altai attacked a man who voluntarily entered his enclosure. The victim died on the spot from his injuries.
The tragedy occurred on October 10. According to a witness to the incident, Del Taylor, before the incident, the man was on the observation bridge and asked to take a picture of him against the background of a predator. After taking a few pictures, the visitor climbed over the fence and jumped down.
According to The Sun newspaper, on the video recording of the incident, the man could be heard laughing and asking to take a few more shots at the moment of the jump. Once in the enclosure, he knelt down, after which the tiger pounced on him and grabbed him by the neck. Park staff used weapons to fire warning shots to drive the animal away, but the victim could not be saved.
The South Yorkshire Police confirmed the man's death. Law enforcement officers clarified that during the incident, the tiger did not leave the enclosure, so there was no threat to other visitors. After the attack, people were evacuated from the park.
The Yorkshire Wildlife Park administration announced on October 11 that the Altai tiger would not be euthanized. The staff of the institution was provided with psychological assistance. The police are continuing to clarify all the circumstances of the incident and urge eyewitnesses not to distribute footage of the attack online.
