Irina Trifonova, a medical psychologist, explained why men and the elderly hide their depression. In an interview with Radio 1 on Monday, October 12, the specialist explained that it is often difficult for men to openly talk about their fears and experiences.

Instead of seeking help, they may completely immerse themselves in work, become irritable, abuse alcohol, or commit risky acts. At the same time, the expert urged not to compare who has a harder time coping with depression, since it is important for both men and women to seek support in a timely manner.

The specialist paid special attention to the mental health of the elderly. According to her, loss of interest in habitual activities, memory impairment, headaches and depressed mood are often mistakenly considered natural signs of aging or dementia. However, depression may be hidden behind such changes.

Trifonova emphasized that in old age, people often face a sense of loss of their importance and their habitual role in the family. In such situations, the attention of loved ones, open discussion of feelings and mutual support are especially important.

Gennady Onishchenko, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education, said on October 10 that a sharp drop in air temperature could contribute to the development of autumn depression. According to him, the incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections increases in the autumn period. According to the academician, a seasonal increase in the number of diseases can further aggravate a person's emotional state.

Psychologist Ekaterina Bulgakova noted on October 8 that the mess at home often becomes a mirror of the inner state. According to her, dirty dishes, mountains of clothes and dust are external markers of emotional exhaustion and apathy inside.

Psychologist Sergey Lang said on October 5 that restoring life balance helps prevent the development of depression. In particular, it is important for a person to monitor daily activities and minimize stress levels, notes 360.ru .

In early September, psychologist Elena Kuperstein said that a bad mood and loss of strength in the autumn months are often associated with seasonal affective disorder, which belongs to one of the varieties of depression. The specialist stressed that such a condition has nothing to do with banal laziness or whims, according to NSN. Also in September, psychotherapist Mikhail Respontchikov, in a conversation with the Moscow City News agency, said that people who are prone to seasonal mood swings may experience increased depressive symptoms due to prolonged haze. If depression, loss of interest, sleep problems and constant fatigue persist for more than one week, you should consult a specialist.
