Russians are increasingly choosing to keep their savings in cash. The main thing
Russians prefer to keep their savings in cash against the background of changing deposit conditions and difficulties with non-cash payments. All the details are in the Izvestia article.
Cash savings Forecasts
Some depositors choose cash due to lower interest rates when extending deposits. Analyst Dmitry Gritskevich pointed out that interest in paper money may persist if access to non-cash transactions becomes difficult.
Representatives of credit institutions, including Nikita Kamyshny from OTP Bank and Denis Mavlanov from Renaissance Bank, have not yet noticed a massive surge in withdrawals. However, experts admit an increase in the popularity of cash under certain market conditions.
"The trend will be especially noticeable if deposit rates decrease and problems with access to non-cash payments persist or worsen," experts say.
Increased supervision of the origin of cash
The Bank of Russia plans to strengthen control over the origin of cash deposited by citizens and businesses. The regulator is preparing recommendations for banks on in-depth analysis of such operations to combat the shadow economy.
Bogdan Shablya urged organizations to avoid a formal approach when checking the financial situation of clients. According to him, cash is often used to bypass established procedures in segments with a high proportion of cash.
"The regulator called on banks not to limit themselves to formal verification of the financial situation of customers and to prevent the legalization of funds obtained through criminal means," the agency noted.
Restrictions on cash withdrawal
The authorities are strengthening control over the movement of large sums across the border. Since September 29, individuals have been banned from exporting more than 1 million rubles to the EAEU countries, as well as to Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Denis Astafyev explained that funds can only be exported through certain airports if their origin is confirmed. The government expects that measures to whitewash the economy will bring up to 500 billion rubles in additional revenue per year.
