Russian cosmonaut Peter Dubrov officially assumed command of the International Space Station (ISS) on Sunday, October 4, replacing astronaut Jessica Meir.

"This is of particular importance to me today, because the first Sputnik was launched 69 years ago," Dubrov stressed, the broadcast was conducted on the NASA website.

After the handover ceremony, the crew of the SpaceX Crew-12 mission will begin preparations for undocking the spacecraft. The astronauts plan to leave the station for a subsequent return to Earth.

The Crew Dragon manned spacecraft with participants of the NASA Crew-13 mission successfully docked with the ISS on October 2 at 2:05 Moscow time. The flight from launch to arrival at the orbital complex took 7 hours and 55 minutes, which became a record for the speed of approach to the ISS among American manned spacecraft during the entire operation of the station.
