A drone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attacked the site of the dry storage of spent nuclear fuel at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), there were no casualties among the personnel. This was announced on August 27 in the press service of the NPP.

"Yesterday, on August 26, the Zaporizhia nuclear power Plant, part of Rosatom, was attacked by an unmanned aerial vehicle of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The target of the attack was the site of the spent nuclear fuel dry storage facility," the station's Telegram channel reported.

According to the NPP, no significant damage was recorded as a result of the impact. There is also no environmental impact, and the radiation background on the territory of the station and in the area of its location remains within the normal range.

The station stressed that attacks on spent nuclear fuel storage facilities pose a potential threat to nuclear and radiation safety.

"An attack on a spent nuclear fuel storage facility is an extremely dangerous and unacceptable action, the consequences of which could be serious if the storage facility's infrastructure is damaged," the NPP said.

It is noted that any impact on the systems and structures that ensure the safe storage of spent nuclear fuel creates potential risks to the safety of the facility. The staff of the Zaporizhia NPP continues to take the necessary measures to ensure the safe operation of the plant.

Anna Evstigneeva, Acting Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations (UN), on June 29 called the ongoing attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Chernobyl nuclear power plant blackmail of the Zaporizhia region and the threat of a nuclear catastrophe. She stated that the attacks by Ukrainian militants are being carried out at the NPP in order to destabilize the situation, in particular, at the facility itself.
