Stavropol region exports 500 thousand apple saplings to India for the first time
The Stavropol Territory is showing steady growth in most indicators, from exporting products to attracting hundreds of billions of rubles to infrastructure projects. On August 25, Vladimir Putin, at a meeting in the Kremlin with the governor of the region, Vladimir Vladimirovich, highly appreciated the steady dynamics of investments over the past ten years. The head of the region also spoke about the successes in eliminating the consequences of the spring natural disaster, saving land from desertification and problems with housing construction.
What was discussed at the meeting
The Stavropol region's economy is showing positive dynamics. Investors are willing to invest money, and the gross regional product is growing, the governor emphasized. The only exception was housing construction, where the decrease in commissioning volumes is due to both the general situation in the mortgage lending market and protracted administrative approvals.
Vladimir Putin appreciated the influx of money into the economy of the region. Over the past ten years, the volume of investments in fixed assets of the Stavropol Territory has almost tripled: in 2017, the figure was 140 billion rubles, by the end of 2025, it reached a record 426.7 billion for the first time. Stavropol is implementing five breakthrough projects with a total cost of 660 billion rubles, including the development of energy, tourism, logistics and a chemical cluster. The region has made a powerful breakthrough in the agricultural industry: the region has risen from 30th place to the top five in apple production, established import substitution of seeds and began exporting 500,000 seedlings to India.
Special attention was paid at the meeting to the fight against the elements: in the spring of 2026, the annual rainfall rate hit the region — three times more rains fell than during the devastating flood of 2017. However, the clearing of riverbeds has fully justified itself. The difference turned out to be enormous: if nine years ago 26 thousand houses were flooded, and 6.8 billion rubles were spent on compensation, then this time only 32 households were affected, and the water went only 30 cm. As a result, regional payments to residents for the loss of property and social support amounted to 65 million rubles.
The President also asked about the condition and volume of agricultural land. Of the 6.6 million hectares of the territory of the region, 4.1 million hectares have been allocated for agriculture, but in the eastern regions up to 8 thousand hectares are being desertification annually. Vladimirov proposed to develop a specialized program and talked about a way to attract investors through a long-term lease mechanism. "There is such an idea. If it is implemented, it will be both investments and new lands for us. I think it will be a good, let's say, experiment for the whole of Russia," said the head of the region.
