American actor Miles Bullock B will play rapper and producer Dr. Dre in the biopic "Snoop", dedicated to the life and career of Snoop Dogg. The image of the main character will be embodied by the star of the series "Outer Shoals" Jonathan Daviss, and the film will be directed by Craig Brewer. This was reported on August 20 by The Hollywood Reporter (THR).

Miles Bullock B got the role of Dr. Dre

Bullock B has joined the cast of the Universal Pictures film as one of the key performers. Dr. Dre played a crucial role in the beginning of Snoop Dogg's career: it was he who introduced the young rapper to a wide audience, attracted him to the recording of the album "The Chronic", and then worked on his debut album "Doggystyle".

Miles Bullock B is known for the TV series "Black Mafia", "Runaways", "The Vince Staples Show" and "Fight Night: Million Dollar Robbery". He also starred in the new version of the comedy "White People Can't Jump." In "The Vince Staples Show," the actor played a bank robber, and in "Fight Night" he already worked with the director of the upcoming biopic, Craig Brewer.

The role of Dr. Dre will be one of the biggest jobs in the career of the 35-year-old actor. However, it is not reported whether the musician himself will participate in the production of the film as a consultant or producer.

Who will play Snoop Dogg

The central role will be played by Jonathan Daviess, best known for his portrayal of Pope Hayward in the Netflix adventure series Outer Banks. The actor also appeared in the films "Avenge Me", "Broken Memories", "Summer Age" and "The Edge of the World".

Daviss was cast as Snoop Dogg in 2025 and became the first actor to join the project. In April 2026, he and the rapper presented the film at CinemaCon. Then Snoop Dogg performed several of his compositions and personally introduced the audience to the actor who would embody his image on the screen.

Production of the film was scheduled to begin in the summer of 2026 in Los Angeles, NBCUniversal reported. The studio has not yet revealed photos of Daviss as a rapper and has not announced whether principal photography has begun.

What will the movie "Snoop" be about?

"Snoop" tells about the life of Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., who grew up in Long Beach, gained fame under the name Snoop Doggie Dogg, and subsequently became one of the most recognizable rappers and representatives of American popular culture.

Universal Pictures calls the film the "definitive biography" of the artist, music entrepreneur and one of the central figures of gangsta rap. The film will use music from Snoop Dogg's catalog, but specific compositions have not yet been named. The official synopsis also does not reveal which period of the musician's life will be the basis of the plot.

The actor's approval for the role of Dr. Dre suggests that a significant part of the film will be devoted to the early 1990s, the creation of Death Row Records, the recording of "The Chronic" and the rapid success of "Doggystyle". However, this is only a conclusion from the cast so far: the studio has not published the detailed content of the script.

The story of Snoop Dogg has enough material for several independent storylines. In addition to starting a musical career, these are the conflict period of working at Death Row Records, the mid-1990s lawsuit, leaving the company, collaborating with No Limit Records, further returning to Dr. Dre, developing an acting and television career, as well as the artist's transformation into an entrepreneur and owner of Death Row. At CinemaCon, Snoop Dogg warned that the film would be aimed at an adult audience. However, the film has not yet been assigned an official age classification by the American Film Association.

Who's making a movie about Snoop Dogg

"Snoop" will be directed by Craig Brewer, who specializes in musical and biographical dramas. He directed the film "Hustle and Movement" about a rapper from Memphis, the crime musical drama "Moan of the Black Snake", the comedies "My Name is Dolemite" and "Trip to America 2", as well as the new musical film "Song Sung Blue".

Brewer has already worked with Snoop Dogg in the movie "My Name is Dolemite." The rapper played a radio station DJ there who refused to record the main character Rudy Ray Moore. The existing experience of working together has become an additional link between the director and the hero of the future biographical picture. Initially, Allen Hughes, one of the creators of the film "Threat to Society", was appointed director of the biopic. In 2025, the project passed to Brewer, who also began to rework the script.

The first version of the text was written by Joe Robert Cole, co—creator of the Marvel films Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as well as producer of the series American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson. Brewer prepared his own version of his script.

Snoop will be produced by Snoop Dogg himself, Brian Grazer, head of Imagine Entertainment, and Sarah Ramaker, president of Death Row Pictures. Grazer previously produced the musical drama "The Eighth Mile" with Eminem and the biopic "James Brown: The Way Up."

The film will be the first project created under Death Row Pictures' general agreement with NBCUniversal Entertainment. Thus, Snoop Dogg participates in the film not only as its hero, but also as one of the people who control the production and use of his own creative biography.

The project was first announced in 2022. Then the rapper explained that for a long time he did not agree to the film adaptation, because he wanted to find a team capable of correctly conveying his legacy and the image that he intends to leave behind.

How Snoop Dogg met Dr. Dre

The future Snoop Dogg was born on October 20, 1971 in Long Beach. His real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. His mother gave him the nickname Snoopy because of his resemblance to the Peanuts comic book character. In his youth, Broadus recorded home demos with Nate Dogg, Warren Gee, and Lil’ ½ Dead. Their group was named 213— based on the Long Beach telephone code. One of the tapes of Snoop's freestyle got to Dr. Dre, who by that time had left N.W.A. and was creating a new musical association.

According to the American Recording Academy, Dre invited the 20-year-old rapper to audition. The first major collaboration of the musicians was the song "Deep Cover", recorded for the 1992 film of the same name. It also became Snoop Dogg's first officially released song.

The success of the experiment convinced Dre to involve the aspiring artist in his debut solo album "The Chronic". Snoop's voice was featured on several tracks, including "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang", "Lil' Ghetto Boy" and "Fuck wit Dre Day". The album became one of the key releases of Western hip-hop and introduced the American audience to Snoop's manner — unhurried delivery, stretched intonations and the contrast between a relaxed voice and harsh lyrics.

It is this part of the biography that explains why Dr. Dre should become one of the central characters in the film. Without their acquaintance, Snoop Dogg's musical career could have developed completely differently.

How "Doggystyle" Turned Snoop Dogg into a Star

After participating in "The Chronic", Snoop began work on his own debut album. The album "Doggystyle", created with the leading participation of Dr. Dre, was released on November 23, 1993 on Death Row Records.

The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and sold about 800,000 copies in its first week. One of the main tracks was "Who Am I (What's My Name)?" and "Gin and Juice". Subsequently, "Doggystyle" received a quadruple platinum certification in the United States, according to the database of the American Association of Record Companies.

The album consolidated the popularity of gee-funk, a genre that combined rap with synthesizers, slow bass and funk elements of the 1970s. The image of Snoop Dogg was based on a combination of an unflappable manner of performance, the street mythology of Long Beach, humor and demonstrative relaxation.

Commercial success was accompanied by public controversy about the artist's lyrics. Critics of gangsta rap accused Death Row musicians of romanticizing violence and criminal culture, while the performers themselves called their songs a reflection of the everyday reality of Los Angeles neighborhoods.

Why Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre went their separate ways

By the mid-1990s, conflicts within Death Row Records had intensified. In 1996, Dr. Dre left the company and created Aftermath Entertainment. Snoop Dogg's second album "Tha Doggfather" was recorded without his participation.

In the same year, Tupac Shakur, another leading artist of Death Row, died. After his death and Dre's departure, the company began to lose its former influence. Snoop Dogg also came into conflict with the label's management and in the late 1990s moved to No Limit Records, founded by rapper Master P.

The professional break did not ruin the relationship between Snoop and Dre. In 1999, they reunited while working on the album "2001". Snoop appeared in the tracks "Still D.R.E.", "The Next Episode" and "Fuck You". Their collaborative recordings helped bring gee-funk back to the center of the American rap scene in the new decade.

Later, the musicians worked on Snoop's album "The Blue Carpet Treatment", performed at the Coachella Festival in 2012 and participated in the recording of Dre's album "Compton". In 2022, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, along with Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent, performed at halftime of the Super Bowl. The television broadcast won an Emmy Award.

How Snoop Dogg Went Beyond Rap

Over time, Snoop Dogg changed his public image and was no longer perceived solely as a representative of gangsta rap. He continued to produce music, starred in films, dubbed animation projects, participated in sports broadcasts and entertainment programs.

In 2004, the song "Drop It Like It's Hot" recorded with Pharrell Williams became the artist's first single to top the Billboard Hot 100. Over the years, Snoop has experimented with reggae, gospel, funk, and pop music, and has released albums under the names Snoop Lion and Snoopzilla.

A separate area of his career is related to television. The partnership with Martha Stewart turned the former gangsta rap icon into a hero of family entertainment programs and advertising campaigns. He also became a mentor on The Voice show and an NBC special correspondent during the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

By the 2020s, Snoop Dogg had transformed from the controversial rapper of the early 1990s into a versatile media figure working simultaneously in music, film, sports, advertising, and business. It is this transformation that is likely to become one of the main dramatic lines of the film, although its presence in the script has not yet been confirmed.

Snoop Dogg has already appeared in a musical biopic.

Previously, the young Snoop Dogg had already become a character in a feature film. In the 2015 film The Voice of the Streets, he was played by Lakit Stanfield. Dr. Dre was portrayed by Corey Hawkins in the same film.

"The Voice of the Streets" was primarily about the history of N.W.A., so Snoop appeared only in a few scenes related to the beginning of Dre's solo career. "Snoop" will be the first full-length film entirely devoted to the biography of Calvin Broadus.

"After my brothers told their story in The Voice of the Streets, it was my turn," said Snoop Dogg, introducing the new project.

On July 27, Medialogia presented the Russian Series rating for June and the first half of 2026. The series "Stranger Things" became the leader in the first six months — the project scored 19,601 points. The top 5 projects also included "Magic Battle" (10,839 points), "Lilies of the Valley" (10,486 points), "Boys" (10,024 points) and "First Division" (8,917 points). In addition, the series "Boys" became the leader by the end of June — the story scored 1971 points. The second place went to the Russian detective series "Sled" (1834 points), and the third place went to "Euphoria" (1328 points).
