Bears have attacked people in two regions of Siberia. What is known
At least two high-profile cases of bear attacks on humans have been recorded in Siberia over the past 24 hours. In the Altai Republic, a predator mauled a tourist to death, and in the Kemerovo region, a bear attacked a fisherman who was able to survive. All the details are in the Izvestia article.
The Altai incident
On the night of August 19, on the territory of the Istok campsite in Gorny Altai, a bear attacked a tent with tourists set up on the banks of the Biya River near the village of Artybash. The predator tore up the tent, pulled out a 29-year-old tourist from the Novosibirsk region and dragged her into the forest, where he bit her to death. The Investigative Committee for the region is conducting an investigation into the incident. The Republican Prosecutor's Office has also launched an inspection. After the incident, a curfew was imposed in the village.
The incident in the Kemerovo region
In the Kemerovo region, a bear attacked a man who was returning from fishing near Mezhdurechensk. The incident occurred in a remote taiga, but the victim was able to fend off the predator and get to the Snow Leopard parking lot on his own. Rescuers and a sanitation helicopter arrived at the scene, where the man was taken to a medical facility. The victim's condition is assessed as moderate. The bear went into the forest after the attack.
Other incidents in Siberia
Two days earlier, in the Taishetsky district of the Irkutsk region, a bear attacked two local residents in a wooded area near the Biryusa River. Both men, born in 1959 and 1962, were injured: one of them was hospitalized with bitten wounds to the shin, the other with serious injuries.
