Smart approach: the demand for the installation of smart home systems in Russia has tripled
In Russia, in the first half of 2026, interest in installing smart home systems more than tripled compared to the same period in 2025. Market participants cite the development of artificial intelligence as the main reason, which has made managing home devices easier and more convenient. Modern systems are capable not only of executing basic commands — turn on the lights, turn on household appliances, or adjust the temperature — but also of analyzing user behavior, automatically adjusting device operation parameters, and adapting to the needs of each family member. An additional popularity factor was the simplification of equipment installation. Which devices are in the greatest demand and to what extent their use is safe — in the Izvestia material.
How Russians are building smart homes
Their sellers and service aggregators told Izvestia about the rapid growth in demand for smart home systems. In the first half of the year, the demand for the installation of such systems has more than tripled compared to the same period in 2025, Pavel Vyukov, managing director of the Consumer Electronics and Smart Home Department at Marvel Distribution, told Izvestia.
— The market is growing by 25-30% annually (32 billion rubles by the end of 2025 versus 26 billion in 2024), but the first half of 2026 is characterized by abnormally high dynamics in certain categories. In our assessment, this indicates a transition from early adoption to mass consumption," he said.
According to him, the growth leaders in terms of demand are smart curtains and motorized curtain rods, leak sensors, air conditioning, light and heating. The market is increasingly shifting from single gadgets to complex scenarios: consumers no longer buy a smart outlet, preferring a system.
According to Avito Services, the general interest in housing automation in 2026 showed a threefold increase compared to 2025. In some product categories, demand has increased six to nine times, according to Svetlana Filimonova, head of the Repair and Construction category of the platform. The fundamental trend determining the further development of such automated homes is the introduction of machine learning algorithms directly into home hubs. Previously, the systems worked according to harsh scenarios ("if the time is 7:00, then turn on the light"), but now they are able to analyze user behavior and predict their needs in advance.
— Previously, the client asked: "Make the air conditioner turn on on command from your phone." Today, the request sounds different: "Make sure that the house understands when I get hot and creates a comfortable microclimate in advance, taking into account the weather outside and my calendar of meetings." Modern systems are able to analyze information from several sensors simultaneously, automatically correcting the operation of ventilation, heating and lighting. The best smart home in 2026 is one that doesn't need to be manually controlled at all," she believes.
NTI expert on new materials and technologies Evgeny Vishnevsky believes that the threefold growth dynamics of sales of individual smart home devices cannot be automatically transferred to the entire market, it can vary significantly by category and sales channels.
Marketplaces are also talking about the growing interest in such systems. Video surveillance systems are the most popular category on Wildberries: their turnover increased by 25%. Video doorbells and smart light bulbs were purchased by 20% more, video eyes — by 27%. However, according to a company representative, smart door locks are not trusted by customers yet — there has been no increase in their sales.
— Today, the categories that allow automating everyday household processes and increasing the safety of housing are actively developing. One of the fastest growing areas is leak protection systems, including water sensors, automatic valves, and actuators. Such solutions are able to independently shut off water in an emergency and help prevent serious damage," said Nikita Tolpygin, head of the M.Video Telecom and Gadgets Department.
Security systems such as video surveillance cameras, door and window opening sensors, motion sensors, smoke detectors, and other remote monitoring devices also show positive dynamics. For many users, security is the first step towards creating their own smart home, he told Izvestia.
The introduced GOSTs for modified high-rise buildings encourage developers to implement smart solutions as a standard rather than an option, says Pavel Vyukov.
Which system is smarter
There are currently several housing automation systems on the Russian market. In addition to foreign ones, such as Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant, there are also developments by Russian companies. For example, "House with Alice" from Yandex. It allows you to control lighting, climate, sockets, set scenarios for using smart gadgets, and the like through a voice assistant.
Sberbank also has its own platform, the Sberbank Smart Home. It is built around speakers, televisions, and an AI assistant and allows you to control household appliances and other components. And Rostelecom's "Key" supports functions such as smart intercom, video surveillance, sensors, barriers that read car numbers. However, this system is primarily focused on new residential complexes, and not on self-installation in an apartment, said one of the participants in the IoT market.
The advantages of Russian systems include their local origin, says Denis Kuskov, CEO of TelecomDaily. According to him, this reduces the risks associated with possible blockages, disruption of services, hacking or problems with software updates. At the same time, domestic solutions have limitations: compared to their foreign counterparts, they still offer fewer functions and support a more limited set of compatible devices.
Denis Kuskov attributed the incompatibility of individual components among themselves to the common problems of ecosystems. Even devices from the same manufacturer are not able to support all models of equipment: for example, accessories for controlling a smart TV can only work with certain versions of devices. Another important issue is related to information security. According to the expert, there remains a risk of intruders interfering in the operation of smart home systems — in particular, unauthorized access to data from video surveillance cameras and other connected devices is possible.
How AI contributed to the growing demand for "intelligence"
According to market participants, there is a growing demand in Russia not only for IoT systems themselves. For example, Megafon records a steady interest in SIM cards for smart devices: over the past three months, their number has increased by 10%. In the same period last year, the increase was about 2.5%, the company told Izvestia.
"Such SIM cards have a pronounced seasonality in traffic consumption: in the warmer months, it increases by an average of 25%, which is associated with the more active use of smart home technology in suburban real estate, such as dachas," the operator's press service said.
The Russian market is developing in line with global trends, but ahead of schedule, Svetlana Filimonova noted. According to Verified Market Reports, the global smart home market reached $100 billion in 2024 and will double by 2033, showing an average annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.5%, but the dynamics in our country is even higher, she said.
— According to Rubetek Lab forecasts, the penetration of digital technologies in the segment of apartment buildings will increase by more than a third by 2030, and the volume of the digital buildings market will exceed 440 billion rubles, - said Svetlana Filimonova.
She believes that the domestic segment is growing ahead of global dynamics: since 2020, its volume has almost doubled due to the focus of the state and citizens on digital solutions, including through the Smart City, Smart Apartment Building projects, as well as the "Promising standardization Program in the field of smart homes, buildings and structures." for 2023-2030."
Compact wireless solutions make it possible to integrate smart lights, sockets, and security sensors into already renovated homes without shattering walls, she noted. This explains the explosive growth in demand for the installation of special relays, leak sensors and motorized cornices, Svetlana Filimonova believes.
In fast–growing categories, sales by the end of 2026 may increase 1.5-2 times, Evgeny Vishnevsky believes.
"Maintaining three—fold growth rates throughout the year is unlikely due to the effect of a high base, although sales and a high repair season will traditionally support the fourth quarter," he predicts.
According to the forecast of Marvel Distribution, the market of smart home systems will maintain high dynamics. The supply for installation has doubled, but it still lags far behind demand — deferred orders will be realized by the end of the year, Pavel Vyukov predicts.
In his opinion, taking into account the growing awareness, accessibility of AI management, digitalization of the housing stock and lower prices for sensors, the market by the end of 2026 may grow by 40-50% and exceed 45-48 billion rubles. The main vector is the transition from autonomous devices to integrated platforms based on a single AI shell.
