Recently, the film industry has been flooded with news about film adaptations of famous books, both world classics and modern literary works. So, the leading film studios are ready to present many films based on books of various genres, which will premiere before the end of this year, including the new part of "The Hunger Games", "Odyssey" by Christopher Nolan and the finale of "Dune". The most anticipated film adaptations of 2026 can be found in the Izvestia article.

Dune 3, Frank Herbert

Director Denis Villeneuve will complete the Dune trilogy with a film set 17 years after the events of the second part. The plot of the new film will cover the period of Paul's reign as the emperor of the known universe. According to the description, the main character will concentrate unprecedented power in his hands, but he will face the hostility of the political houses that he ousted during his ascension to the throne.

The main threat in the new chapter of history will loom not only over the emperor himself, but also over his beloved Chani, as well as the unborn heir of the Atreides dynasty. Despite the fact that the House of Atreides begins to crumble due to the intrigues of enemies, it is this personal drama that will become central to the narrative.

Timothy Chalamet, Zendaya and Rebecca Ferguson will return to their roles. In addition, Robert Pattinson, who will play the villain Scytale, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia joined the cast. The premiere of the film is scheduled for December 18, 2026.

The Odyssey, Homer

Christopher Nolan will present his version of Homer's Odyssey on July 17, 2026. Matt Damon will play the role of Odysseus, who will have to fight cyclopes, sea monsters and sirens. The role of his wife Penelope went to Anne Hathaway, and their son Telemachus will be played by Tom Holland. Robert Pattinson will appear as Antinous, Odysseus' main rival and a contender for Penelope's hand.

It is also confirmed that the roles of Helen of Troy and her sister Clytemnestra went to actress Lupita Nyong'o. Famous American rap artist Travis Scott will also take part in the film.

The plot of the film focuses on the ten-year journey of the Greek hero home after the war. Mythical creatures, including cyclops and sea monsters, will be recreated on the screen. Nolan emphasized that the film will not be just a spectacle, but a deep exploration of the human character and the existential crisis of the protagonist. It is known that the director refused to use computer graphics, preferring to shoot in real locations on 70mm IMAX film.

The Hunger Games: Dawn of the Harvest, by Susan Collins

Lionsgate studio is preparing a prequel to the Hunger Games called Dawn of the Harvest, which is scheduled for release on November 20, 2026. The plot focuses on 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy, on the events of the 50s "Hunger Games", also known as "The Second Quarter Massacre".

The action takes place 24 years before the start of the original trilogy. At the center of the story is a young Haymitch Abernethy, whose role in the film adaptation will be played by actor Joseph Zada. According to the story, the number of participants in the anniversary games was doubled: four tributes were sent from each district to the arena — two boys and two girls.

The film's cast includes Ralph Fiennes, who will embody the image of the young President Snow, and Elle Fanning as Effie Bryak. The main character's girlfriend, Linor Dove, will be played by Whitney Peake, and the role of Viress went to Maya Hawke. On the day of the draw, Haymitch is forced to leave his mother, younger brother Sid, and lover Linor to fight for survival among the 48 tributes.

"Sense and Sensibility," by Jane Austen

Also in 2026, a new version of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility" is expected from director Georgia Oakley. The main roles in this modern interpretation of the classic will be played by Daisy Edgar-Jones, who will embody on the screen the image of Eleanor Dashwood, the eldest of the three sisters around whom the plot of the classic is based, and Esme Creed-Miles, who will play the role of the emotional Marianne Dashwood.

The film is set in 18th-century England. The plot tells the story of a widow and her three daughters, who are forced to leave a luxurious estate in Sussex and move to a distant relative in a modest cottage. In their new place, Elinor and Marianne will have to go through the trials of love and the bitterness of loss.

The cast also includes Katrina Balfe (Mrs. Dashwood), George McKay (Edward Ferras), Fiona Shaw (Mrs. Jennings). The roles of the contenders for Marianne's heart were distributed between Frank Dillane (John Willoughby) and Herbert Nordram (Colonel Brandon). Margaret's younger sister will be played by Bodhi Ray Brett.

"The Hypothesis of Love," by Ali Hazelwood

At the same time, Amazon MGM Studios is working on an adaptation of the novel "The Hypothesis of Love" starring Lili Reinhart. The film tells the story of Olivia Smith (Lili Reinhart), a graduate student at the Department of Biology, and Adam Carlsen (Bateman), an ambitious young professor. The characters enter into a fictitious relationship that leads to the collapse of their rational theories about love.

The project will be directed by Claire Scanlon, who previously worked on the film "The Setup". The script based on the book was prepared by Sarah Rothschild. Reinhart herself and the author of the original work, Ali Hazelwood, will serve as executive producers.

The novel "The Hypothesis of Love" was published in 2021 by Berkley Publishing house and was on The New York Times bestseller list for ten months. The book has been translated in more than 40 countries, and Amazon has recognized it as the best romance novel of the year.

On May 5, Medialogia presented the results of the Russian series rating for the first quarter of 2026. The absolute leader was the project "Very Strange Things", which scored 15,948 points. In second place is the series "Lilies of the Valley" (8829), and in third place is "The First Department" (7745). The fourth place was taken by the anime "Magic Battle" with 6419 points, and "Sled" rounded out the top five with 3563 points.
