In 2025, the incidence of HIV decreased by 13.4% compared to 2024 and amounted to 31 new cases of HIV infection per 100,000 population, which is 40% lower than the average annual level. Natalia Ladnaya, a senior researcher at the specialized scientific research department for the Prevention and Control of AIDS at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, told Izvestia about this.

The total number of people with HIV is increasing due to the detection of new cases of the disease and an increase in the life expectancy of those infected earlier due to ongoing therapy, the source explained.

"HIV screening coverage is increasing every year, while the number of newly identified cases is decreasing. So, in 2025, more than 53.8 million residents of Russia were tested for HIV, which is one third of the total population," the source said.

Early diagnosis of infection, timely administration of therapy to people who have been diagnosed with HIV infection, and regular use of antiretroviral drugs make it possible to reduce the viral load in patients to a level at which the virus is not transmitted to sexual partners or at birth, the expert emphasized.
