In a healthy person, the concentration of glucose in the blood on an empty stomach should be from 3.3 to 6 mmol / l. This was announced on November 2 by Pavel Baranov, a member of the Russian Association of Endocrinologists and nutritionist.

"If we look at it from the perspective of Russian clinical recommendations, then the corridor of normal fasting blood glucose levels ranges from 3.3 to 6 mmol/l," the specialist explained in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to the doctor, values below the established limit are called hypoglycemia, and exceeding the upper threshold is called hyperglycemia. However, a single deviation from the norm does not necessarily indicate the development of the disease.

The results of the analysis can be influenced by physical activity, carbohydrate intake, and a person's emotional state. In particular, during stress, fright, or irritation, the body produces adrenaline and cortisol, which can increase sugar levels.

Baranov stressed that in order to obtain reliable results, it is necessary to properly prepare for the study. Blood should be given on an empty stomach, without consuming food and drinks before the procedure, with the exception of plain water. It is also important to avoid stressful situations.

If, under these conditions, the analysis shows an excess of the norm, the doctor recommends that you undergo the study again to rule out a laboratory error.

Special attention should be paid to glucose control in people whose relatives have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. As the specialist noted, the predisposition to this disease is usually inherited.

Alexander Farmanov, an endocrinologist at Olympus Clinic MARS, noted on October 2 that type II diabetes in young people can be asymptomatic, and frequent infections of the skin and mucous membranes, slow wound healing, drowsiness after eating and black acanthosis — darkening of skin folds on the neck, elbows and armpits are the reason to check sugar. According to him, the increase in morbidity among young people reflects a change in the environment: inactivity, stress and an abundance of calories deplete the pancreas before the age of 40.
