Iran allowed withdrawal from the NPT in case of a new US attack
The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Mohsen Rezai, admitted that Tehran may reconsider its participation in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) if the United States resumes military aggression against the republic. He stated this on October 31 on the air of the state-owned IRIB TV channel, the video of which was published on the Telegram channel.
"Now, at some point, they may want to start a war, and it is unknown whether we will remain in the NPT in the future after any war, but while we are there, we have 22 rights," Rezai said.
According to the politician, before discussing the Iranian nuclear program, Washington must ensure that all the rights of the Islamic Republic provided for in the treaty are respected. Rezai stressed that Tehran intends to demand recognition of these rights first and only then proceed to negotiations on the nuclear issue.
"Then we will also say that if you want to discuss the nuclear issue, we will first demand our rights, first you must recognize our rights," he said.
On October 30, US President Donald Trump said that the United States would not allow Iran to have its own nuclear weapons. He stressed that Washington needs guarantees that Iran will not have nuclear weapons in the future.
The Wall Street Journal reported on October 27 that the United States had warned some Gulf countries about the possibility of a new military campaign against Iran after the midterm elections to the American Congress in November. According to the newspaper, Washington and Israel are considering a large-scale operation, hoping to weaken Tehran and force it to return to negotiations.
