Experimental snow shields will be installed on the road to Teriberka
In the Murmansk region, snow shields will be installed along the road to Teriberka. More than 4.8 million rubles were allocated from the regional budget for the construction. Specialists are engaged in manual installation.
Devices that protect roads from snow drifts were used back in Soviet times and have shown their effectiveness, Bi-port news agency writes. We decided to repeat the practice on the road, which is one of the most snow-covered in the region.
The A-shaped shields are made of wooden planks. This shape proved to be the most resistant to wind and snow loads. The fences will stand in a solid line in a checkerboard pattern. The sections will overlap to create a united front, the press service of Murmanskavtodor explained to Nord-News.
The measure of combating snow drifts is still being used as an experiment. In the Arctic, this will be the first step in finding the best solution to improve the cross-country ability of roads with difficult weather conditions. The upcoming winter will show the effectiveness of non-stationary snow shields.
On October 21, it was reported that the highway from Murmansk to Teriberka would be provided with mobile communications. Almost 12.5 million rubles will be allocated for these purposes from the reserve fund of the regional government. The money will go to the regional Ministry of Finance. The agency will also receive almost 472 thousand rubles for technical support: the supply of a software and hardware complex, licenses and activation certificates. The total amount of project financing will amount to 12.944 million rubles. The agency will conduct purchases and ensure the conclusion of government contracts. A report on the expenditure of funds will be provided by December 25, 2026.
