Psychologist warned about the dangers of mukbang for intelligence
Regular viewing of videos on food intake and everyday conversations (mukbang) can become a catalyst not only for the development of eating disorders, but also for intellectual degradation, clinical psychologist Daria Serebryakova warned in a conversation with Izvestia.
"A single viewing of such content will not lead to negative consequences. But if you spend hours watching someone eat huge amounts of food for primitive everyday stories and at the same time eat "for company", then the intellectual life of a person becomes impoverished," the expert emphasized.
While watching, she says, the brain gets a double pleasure: visual — from the sight of food, and social — from the illusion of company.
"Food is turning from a means of satisfying hunger into a way of spending leisure time. The viewer stops reading saturation signals as his attention is focused on the screen. For bloggers, mukbang is a way to generate income that they can spend on follow—up treatment. But for the viewer, especially a teenager, such a lifestyle becomes a dubious and harmful role model," warned the interlocutor of the editorial board.
