A basic winter wardrobe can be made up of 10-15 items that can be easily combined with each other. It should include a straight-cut coat, a warm down jacket, knitwear, classic trousers, jeans, a midi skirt and versatile shoes. Anna Skorokhodova, stylist, accessories designer and founder of the by SKOROKHODOVA brand, told Izvestia about this on October 29.

What items should I include in my winter wardrobe?

According to the expert, when designing a wardrobe, it is important to focus not on the number of things, but on the ability to create different images from them. She recommended including a classic coat, a down jacket, a jacket, several jumpers, a turtleneck, a shirt and a cardigan in the basic set. You can complement them with straight-cut jeans, classic trousers, a midi skirt and a versatile dress.

Boots, practical boots or sneakers will also be needed for the cold season. When choosing shoes, it is worth paying attention to the comfort of the shoe, the non-slip sole and the materials suitable for the local climate. In outerwear, Skorokhodova advises giving preference to concise models that will remain relevant for several seasons.

"A good winter wardrobe does not start with the number of things, but with their compatibility. You can have a closet full of clothes and still wonder every morning what to wear. Or you can assemble a relatively small database and look completely different every day," the stylist noted.

What can you save on when buying clothes?

First of all, it is worth investing in outerwear, shoes and high-quality knitwear. A good coat with the right fabric composition and the right fit can last for several seasons. The expert recommends using a similar approach when choosing winter boots and boots, as well as jumpers made of merino wool or cashmere.

At the same time, you can save money on seasonal trends. If you want to complement your wardrobe with a fashionable hat, a bright scarf, or an unusually shaped bag, you don't have to choose expensive brands. Before buying, Skorokhodova advises evaluating the composition of the fabric, the quality of the seams, lining and fittings, as well as the fit of the product.

Another rule is to think of several combinations with a new thing in advance. If it is difficult to combine it with clothes that are already in the wardrobe, the purchase should be postponed.

How to diversify winter looks

Accessories will help to change the character of a familiar set. For example, a black coat with a laconic bag and a voluminous scarf will create a restrained image, and an expressive brooch, large jewelry or leather gloves in a wine or emerald shade will add personality to it.

Skorokhodova also recommends not to limit yourself to dark colors. Milk, chocolate, gray, graphite and dark blue shades go well together. You can add expressiveness with the help of burgundy, emerald or saturated red details.

"In winter, it is useful to use layering: wear a shirt under a jumper, a thin turtleneck under a jacket or a cardigan over a dress. It is also acceptable to combine sportswear with classic items. For example, a hoodie can be worn under a coat, and minimalist sneakers can be complemented with straight trousers. The main thing is to keep a balance and not overload the image with details," the expert explained.

Skorokhodova emphasized that style does not start with the price tag or the number of branded items, but with understanding yourself, your proportions and the ability to combine things.
