Sollers to launch production of automatic checkpoints in Tatarstan
Sollers has announced the launch of a project to localize the production of 8-speed automatic transmissions. This was reported to Izvestia on October 28 by the company's press service. The production of transmissions will be launched in the second half of 2027 at the site of the Sollers Alabuga engine plant in Tatarstan. A preferential loan from the Industrial Development Fund (EDF) has been approved for the implementation of this project, the company said.
Sollers noted that the project provides for the localization of key technological operations, including the production of crankcase blanks, assembly and bench tests of automatic transmissions. The final assembly and testing of the units will be organized at the Yelabuga site. Casting and machining of crankcases is carried out at the site of the RosALit foundry in the Trans—Volga region, part of the Sollers Group, where the relevant competencies have been mastered since 2024. The design capacity will be up to 13.7 thousand units per year.
"The organization of full—cycle production of automatic transmissions in Yelabuga is Russia's first project to localize modern automatic transmissions with a torque converter for light commercial vehicles with the development of key technological changes and competencies within the perimeter of a single automaker. The automatic transmission is one of the critically important and historically import—dependent components of the car," said Adil Shirinov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC Sollers.
The total investment in the project will amount to about 500 million rubles, the company said. The loan funds will be used to purchase new equipment, technological and casting equipment, as well as cutting and measuring tools for the automatic transmission assembly line, the bench testing site, the transmission crankcase machining line and the logistics site, Sollers said.
"The Industrial Development Fund will provide Sollers with a preferential loan of 395 million rubles for the localization of an 8-speed automatic transmission. We have been working with the group for several years now: with the participation of FRP, the production of engines, gearboxes, body parts and other components is developing at Sollers enterprises," said Roman Petrutsa, Director of FRP.
The Sollers S9 SUVs, Sollers ST8 and ST9 pickups, as well as Sollers SF1 light commercial vehicles will receive 8-speed automatic transmissions with a torque converter, the company said. In the future, this machine will also be installed on Sollers SF5 vans.
On October 27, Sollers handed over 150 Sollers SF1 compact commercial vehicles to the Russian Special Communications Service. These vehicles will operate in Moscow and other major cities of the country.
