- The Russian Foreign Ministry announced countermeasures in response to the detention of Russian vessels.
Russia is implementing retaliatory measures in connection with the actions of Western countries that detain ships in the Baltic Sea. This was announced on October 24 by Vladislav Maslennikov, Director of the Department of European Problems at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"Of course, we are taking appropriate countermeasures, which may be of an asymmetric nature," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to the diplomat, the member states of the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union are actually engaged in a maritime racket. Maslennikov noted that Western countries arbitrarily detain and arrest vessels that follow routes in accordance with generally accepted rules.
On October 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia, in response to aggressive behavior, is ready to act in a mirror manner in any part of the World Ocean. Commenting on the attempts to detain Russian courts, the president called such actions an obvious violation of international law.
