The British newspaper The Telegraph has begun a large-scale reorganization procedure after coming under the control of the European media group Axel Springer. As part of the changes, the staff of the publication may decrease by about 100 people. This was reported by The Guardian newspaper on October 23.

"The new owners of the Daily Telegraph have announced massive layoffs, explaining that the publication will be transformed from a traditional newspaper into a "global premium media and analytical business powered by artificial intelligence," the article says.

According to Carolyn Hulshoff Paul, CEO of Telegraph Media Group, the editorial staff will expand the use of technology, data and artificial intelligence, while simultaneously developing new business areas — from video and audio to events, B2B products, licensing and commercial projects.

The company intends to increase the publication's presence on the international market, in particular through materials on international relations, defense and business. At the same time, the management stated that journalism, professional expertise and direct interaction with readers will remain the basis of the transformation.

As specified in the text, employees began to be informed about the cuts the day before. According to sources inside the editorial office, the cultural and sports departments were the most affected by the changes.

The Guardian reported on October 8 that the boom in artificial intelligence has led to a new spike in rental prices in San Francisco. The average price of a one-bedroom apartment in the city reached $4.4 thousand per month, an increase of more than 25% over the year. It was clarified that the rising cost of housing is forcing restaurant workers, teachers, nurses and other professionals to share apartments with several neighbors or move outside of San Francisco.
