The total public debt of Great Britain for the first time exceeded £3 trillion, or about $4 trillion. This was reported on October 21 by the Reuters news agency, citing the country's official statistics.

"In September, inflation turned out to be higher than predicted. This is likely to strengthen calls for additional support for low—income households under the new budget," the text says.

At the same time, in September, the volume of government borrowing amounted to 24.52 billion pounds, exceeding both last year's figure (22.76 billion pounds) and economists' expectations of 23.85 billion pounds. It is specified that one of the reasons for the increase was the increased debt servicing costs.

In addition, the budget deficit reached 97.8 billion pounds in the first six months of the fiscal year. The figure turned out to be 6 billion pounds higher than the forecast of the Office for Budget Responsibility. At the same time, UK public debt servicing costs increased by almost 17% in September, to £11 billion, and in April–September amounted to £60.8 billion.

Amid the increased debt burden and higher inflation, analysts expect Treasury Secretary John Healey to budget cautiously. As noted by Reuters, the government's room for maneuver in planning expenditures and tax policy has significantly decreased.

According to statistics from the US Treasury Department dated October 21, the US government debt has updated its historical maximum, having increased by almost $400 billion over the past two months. In addition, the volume of borrowings approached the $40.4 trillion mark. Based on the current growth rate, analysts estimate that the figure could exceed $50 trillion by 2030.
