Over the past weekend, 638 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 84 people were killed and 793 injured. 66 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on October 19 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

16 bus accidents were recorded, in which two people were killed, and 24 more road users, including three children, needed medical help. Eight bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

So, in the Amur Region, during the daytime, on 796 km of the federal highway R-297 Amur, a minibus driver carrying nine passengers on a regional route from the city of Skovorodino to the village of Yerofey Pavlovich drove into the oncoming lane in a snowfall, where he collided with a truck. The driver and one of the passengers of the bus were killed in the accident, seven more passengers were hospitalized with injuries.

As a result of 159 accidents involving pedestrians, 18 people were killed, 151 more were injured in various degrees of severity. There are 41 young pedestrians among the injured, 21 of them were injured when crossing the roadway in unintended places. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 70 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 89 outside their area of operation.

119 accidents involving minors were registered over the weekend, 139 young road users were injured, including 68 passengers, 29 drivers, nine of them were driving motor vehicles. Three teenagers traveling on public roads on cross-country motorcycles and pit bikes, including one 14-year-old female driver, were killed in different regions of the country.

So, in the Republic of Mari El, in the evening, on 100 km of the federal highway R-176 Vyatka, a young motorcyclist, when turning in a prohibited place outside the intersection, did not provide an advantage in traffic and collided with a passenger car moving in the opposite direction, driven by a 62-year-old female driver. Despite the fact that the eighth-grader was riding a motorcycle in a helmet, she died. The deceased schoolgirl had not previously been issued a driver's license.

In addition, in one of the rural settlements of the Republic of Tyva, at night, a 16-year-old driver of a passenger car without state registration plates, who was driving a vehicle without a driver's license that had been removed from the register at the State Traffic Inspectorate more than a year ago, did not provide an advantage in traffic when leaving a secondary road at an unregulated intersection and collided with a pit bike driven by 15-a summer motorcyclist who rode a motor vehicle without a helmet and driver's license. A teenage motorcyclist died.

One of the main causes of accidents among underage drivers is the lack of proper adult supervision, the department stressed. Parents often purchase equipment for their children themselves, such as mopeds or so-called pit bikes, which are prohibited from driving on public roads, forgetting to explain to them the basic rules of travel. In addition, the legal age for driving a particular vehicle is often ignored.

A driver's license with an open category "M" is required to operate a moped and scooter. You can get it after studying at a driving school from the age of 16. At the same time, it is possible to travel on a moped on public roads only in a motorcycle helmet, provided that you have perfect command of the technique of driving such vehicles.

For driving a moped, scooter, motorcycle, or car without the appropriate license, a fine of 5 to 15 thousand rubles is provided, while the vehicle is delayed and placed in a specialized parking lot. In addition, the fine for transferring the right to drive a vehicle to a child is 30 thousand rubles. Their parents or legal representatives will be responsible for teenagers under the age of 16 who were driving vehicles.

"Do not leave the keys to cars and motor vehicles for children, thereby allowing the possibility of a dangerous trip. Adults should constantly monitor teenagers' leisure time, especially in the evening, in order to avoid the possibility of road accidents involving them," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

As reported on October 16, in Moscow in the first nine months of 2026, the number of accidents involving drivers with signs of alcohol and drug intoxication decreased by 20.6% compared to the same period last year.
