Vilnius has requested Warsaw's assistance in investigating the incident with a drone that entered the territory of the Baltic state from Polish airspace. This was announced on October 18 by Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas.

"The preliminary information is as follows: the object presumably entered Lithuanian airspace from Poland. I have already contacted the Polish Defense Minister and asked him to contribute and jointly investigate this incident," the Delfi portal quoted him as saying.

Kaunas reported that the air object entered the country from Poland at about 6:00 Moscow time. NATO fighters were lifted into the air, but because of the fog, the pilots could not see the object on their own. Based on the sound and flight path, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic came to the conclusion that the object is a drone.

Authorities later reported that the alleged drone crashed and damaged the car. The incident occurred in the village of Juogenis in the Pasvalis district, where debris was found, presumably from a drone.

Earlier in the day, a red air danger level was introduced in three counties of Lithuania after the discovery of an unknown drone. NATO fighter jets scrambled to intercept the facility, and Kaunas International Airport temporarily suspended operations. The alarm affected Kaunas, Panevezhsky and Siauliai counties. Residents were advised to take shelter in safe places. Fighter jets based at Zoknai Airbase have detected an unknown object on their radars.

In Lithuania, on October 3, Vilnius airport was temporarily closed and NATO fighter jets were lifted into the air after reports of a possible drone. Reports about the facility have been received from residents. According to them, the UAV was moving from the outskirts of Vilnius in the direction of Jonava in the central part of the country. A yellow air alert level has been announced in Vilnius County.
