Used car sales in Russia increased by almost 8% in September
In September 2026, residents of the Russian Federation purchased 557.1 thousand used passenger cars. This is 7.5% more than a month earlier (in August — 518.2 thousand units), and 0.7% higher than the result of September last year (553.3 thousand units). This is stated in the report of the analytical agency Autostat, which was received by Izvestia on October 19.
Lada retains its leadership among brands in the secondary market — in the first month of autumn, 123.1 thousand such used cars were purchased. The second place belongs to Toyota, which has an indicator of 60 thousand units. This is followed by Kia and Hyundai (30.9 thousand and 29.7 thousand units, respectively), as well as Volkswagen (26.5 thousand units). Nissan, Honda, Chevrolet, Renault and BMW rounded out the top 10.
All brands showed growth in the top ten compared to the level of a month ago. BMW has the strongest rating (+10.7%), while Kia has the weakest rating (+1.4%). In the annual comparison, only four brands showed positive dynamics, and among them, Honda (+14.6%) and Volkswagen (+13.4%) look better than others. Six brands are in the red, and Kia (-6.5%) and Lada (-5.9%) feel the worst here.
In the first nine months of 2026, Russians became owners of 4.5 million used passenger cars. This is 2% more than in January–September last year.
As reported on October 16, almost half of Russian motorists considering replacing a car were undecided about whether to buy a new one or a used one.
