Russian is one of the top five world languages.
Russian is one of the top five world languages. This was announced on October 17 by Vladimir Pakhomov, a researcher at the Vinogradov Institute of the Russian Language of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Philological Council of the Total Dictation Foundation.
Russian Russian Language Index in the world, which is calculated and presented by the Pushkin State Institute of the Russian Language every year, can be referred to. In 2020, colleagues did this for the first time, and over the past six years it has been clear that the Russian language remains in the top, it is in the top five languages," Pakhomov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The expert explained that the rating is formed taking into account a number of indicators — in particular, they take into account the number of people who speak the language, the number of those for whom it is native, as well as the number of websites in this language and international organizations where it is used as a working language.
"I want to believe that Russian will continue to be in demand, and it will definitely remain the language of interethnic and international communication," Pakhomov stressed.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said during the Eurasia Prize on October 15 that the Russian language is not a tool to combat Russophobia, but serves as a universal means of maintaining the commonality of the peoples of Eurasia. Peskov recalled that many states advocate strengthening the role of the Russian language in the Eurasian space. In particular, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called for the creation of an International Organization for the Russian Language (UNESCO).
