On Friday and next weekend, October 17-18, traffic police officers will conduct massive and continuous checks on the country's roads, special attention will be paid to the search for drunk drivers. The raids were announced by the regional departments of the department.

Measures to prevent and combat cases of driving under the influence of alcohol will be held in the Ryazan, Lipetsk, Kaliningrad regions, the Komi Republic, the Republic of Tatarstan and other regions of the country. The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded motorists and motorcyclists about the inadmissibility of driving while intoxicated: continuous checks on Russian roads to identify drivers who got behind the wheel after drinking alcohol are carried out by traffic inspectors on an ongoing basis.

"Driving while intoxicated is unacceptable. Drunk driving leads to the most serious consequences. Do not get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol: you are not risking your life, the lives of your passengers and other road users," Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Child Traffic Injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, addressed the drivers.

He recalled that for driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as refusing a medical examination, the law provides for the deprivation of a driver's license for a period of one and a half to two years and a fine of 45 thousand rubles. In addition, if the violation is repeated, the driver may already face criminal liability.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that in Moscow in the first nine months of 2026, the number of accidents involving drivers with signs of alcohol and drug intoxication decreased by 20.6% compared to the same period last year.
