Large-scale changes have been taking place in the healthcare system in Moscow in recent decades, with the closest attention being paid to improving care for children. This was announced by the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin.

"Today there are nine children's hospitals in Moscow, as well as children's departments of the M.P. Konchalovsky Hospital in Zelenograd and the MMCC Kommunarka in the TiNAO," he wrote on his personal blog. "Last year alone, more than 330,000 children received treatment in urban hospitals."

The first area in which the changes are being implemented concerns infrastructure. "Last year, we opened a new complex of St. Vladimir's Children's Hospital, one of the most advanced in the country. And in just a year, more than 75,000 children have received help here," the mayor wrote.

Modern equipment that meets the standard required by every Moscow hospital is being transferred to the clinics. In 2025-2026 alone, more than 860 units of medical equipment were purchased for children's hospitals, including magnetic resonance imaging, angiography, X-ray diagnostic devices and ultrasound imaging systems. Recent supplies include retinal optical coherence tomography systems, ENT combines with an imaging system, and C—arc X-ray machines.

According to Sobyanin, thanks to modern equipment and the development of medical technologies, the volume of high-tech medical care for children in the capital has doubled over the past five years. "Last year alone, Moscow doctors performed more than 10,000 cases of such treatment in 18 profiles. Most often, these are the most complex surgical interventions in traumatology, orthopedics and urology," the mayor said.

The mayor called the transition to the principles of a closed cycle of medical care another important area of reform. The purpose of this approach is "to ensure that all necessary diagnostics, surgical treatment and follow—up are concentrated in one place and with one team of specialists," Sobyanin said.
