In Bishkek, Chinese gas buses replaced more than 3 thousand minibuses
Bishkek authorities have replaced more than 3,000 minibuses with 1,000 new Chinese-made gas buses over the past three years. This was reported by the Xinhua news agency.
According to local authorities, the renewal of the fleet has made it possible to gradually remove outdated vehicles from the main streets of the city. The new vehicles are equipped with natural gas engines and have been adapted to the climatic and road conditions of Kyrgyzstan.
"Each country has its own climatic conditions, road conditions and energy resources. We need to adapt to local realities," said the Director of the Bus Research Institute at Zhongtong Bus Holding Co., Ltd. Qi Honglei.
The new buses differ from the previous minibuses in their larger capacity and the presence of air conditioners in the cabins. The vehicle has a light load-bearing body and a range of more than 400 km after one refueling. Automobile gas filling stations were built specifically to service the new fleet in the territories of the city depots.
According to Chyngyzbek Abdymalik, a specialist at the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan, reducing the number of minibuses on central highways has already contributed to improving air quality in the capital.
Cooperation with the Chinese manufacturer began in 2022 with the purchase of the first batch of 120 cars. After successful tests on urban routes, Bishkek City Hall decided to purchase an additional 1,000 buses of the same brand. The Mayor's Office plans to continue the systematic replacement of outdated transport in the city.
On September 20, it was reported that China doubled its car exports to Russia from January to August compared to the same period in 2025, to more than 688,000 vehicles. In monetary terms, shipments reached $9.08 billion in eight months. This figure is 2.2 times higher than the result for the same period last year.
