The doctor named a way to slow down the aging of the brain
Alexey Tokmantsev, a neurologist at SM Clinic, said that there is no universal drug that can stop brain aging, but it can be slowed down.
In conversation with Lenta.Ru On Thursday, October 15, the doctor noted that a combination of intellectual and physical activity, communication and control of chronic diseases helps to slow down the aging of the brain.
To train memory and thinking, the specialist advised learning foreign languages, mastering musical instruments, reading and discussing books, and solving puzzles. The main thing is that classes require concentration and mental effort. Regular physical activity and social contacts are equally important: meetings with friends, joint leisure and communication with loved ones.
In addition, the doctor recommended monitoring blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels, weight control and quitting smoking. At the same time, you should not take vitamins and medications to improve memory without medical indications.
In October, experts from the University of California at Los Angeles linked the composition of the intestinal microbiota with the estimated age of the brain in young and middle-aged people. Advancing in actual age correlated with memory impairment and severe symptoms of depression, clarifies 360.ru .
In September, Roman Buzunov, a somnologist, said that the problem of poor sleep in old age is most often associated not with natural aging, but with a change in regime after retirement. For insomnia after retirement, he advised focusing on the previous sleep duration and limiting rest time to the usual number of hours. According to him, this will help the brain restore its natural sleep rhythm without medication, according to NSN.
In July, a study showed that elevated blood sugar levels are associated with faster brain aging and an increased risk of neurological diseases. The scientists analyzed data from more than 21,000 participants in the UK Biobank database, RIAMO notes. At the same time, neurologist Ali Ismailov said that daily fast food can accelerate brain aging. Such food usually contains an excess of sugar, salt, saturated and trans fats, writes RT.
In January, Ekaterina Shumailova, a neurologist, told the Moscow City News agency that the peak productivity of the human brain takes an average of one to three hours a day. She also recalled that excessive consumption of caffeine in an attempt to cheer up can lead to increased anxiety.
