Offers of legal services with a guarantee of ending the international search for cars through Interpol have become more frequent on the Internet. Those who pass off their mediation or consulting services as an opportunity to ensure that car data is deleted from databases mislead citizens. This was stated on October 15 by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk, her words are quoted on the ministry's website.

The decision to terminate the international search can only be taken by the competent law enforcement agency of a foreign state, on whose initiative the car was put on the wanted list, she noted. Documents on the legal purchase of a car by themselves do not refute the possible fact of its theft and do not automatically delete information from the database.

Volk stressed that the interaction of Russian law enforcement agencies with the Interpol General Secretariat and the organization's member countries is carried out by the National Central Bureau of Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and its territorial divisions.

"In addition, any citizen has the right to independently apply to the Interpol File Control Commission (CCF) with a request to delete or correct information in the Interpol information system. The appeal is submitted through the Commission's online portal, which is the main and only standard way to submit such requests," said Volk.

Consideration of a request for deletion or correction of data usually takes up to nine months after it is deemed acceptable. At the same time, the commission's decision concerns only information in the Interpol system. It by itself does not terminate the national search, criminal case or other restrictions related to the car, the Interior Ministry added.

This summer, the Russian government submitted to the State Duma a bill according to which owners of cars put on the wanted list by Interpol authorities at the initiative of unfriendly countries will be able to register vehicles with the State Traffic Inspectorate and operate them in Russia.

As reported on October 7, the number of reported car thefts in Russia in the first nine months of 2026 increased by 41% compared to the same period last year. At the same time, Chinese brands accounted for 33% of all such cases.
