The founder of the federal network of clinics, Zalim Kudaev, said that the fashion for protein consumption destroys tooth enamel. In conversation with Lenta.Ru On Wednesday, October 14, he noted that he had come to these conclusions based on modern research that examined the effects of sports nutrition on oral health.

According to him, a study of 1,641 bars showed that 81% of products are positioned as high-protein, although the protein digestibility in some of them is only 47%.

The specialist explained that the remains of protein and amino acids in the mouth become a breeding ground for bacteria that secrete organic acids. A study published in the Microbiome journal revealed an increased content of protein breakdown products in the saliva of people with dental erosion.

Kudaev also cited the results of an experiment by American dentists who placed teeth in different protein shakes for a week. Casein and whey proteins caused enamel staining on the second day, and by the sixth, pronounced erosive changes appeared. Soy protein resulted in only a slight staining, while egg protein did not cause noticeable changes.

A separate danger, according to the expert, is protein bars. Many of them contain sugar, syrups and thickeners, and are comparable in caloric content to chocolate. Due to the viscous texture, product residues linger between the teeth and in the recesses of the chewing surface, creating favorable conditions for bacteria.

At the same time, Kudaev noted the benefits of some protein components. Whey protein contains natural antimicrobial substances, and a study of toothpaste with its 20 percent content showed a decrease in plaque in healthy people and patients with diabetes.

On the eve of October 13, Amir Yenikeev, an assistant at the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry at the Pirogov Institute of Dentistry, told RT that a tooth under a veneer remains alive, and a properly installed structure can last for decades. The presence of veneers does not exclude caries, so careful hygiene is necessary using a brush, thread and irrigator, as well as cleaning every six months, notes 360.ru .

Evgenia Grishanova, an orthodontist, said on October 8 that bruxism — involuntary gnashing or strong clenching of teeth during sleep or while awake — remains a common dental problem. Excessive load gradually destroys the enamel, provoking the appearance of chips and microcracks, writes NSN.

Dentist, orthodontist, Ph.D. Yana Dyachkova explained on October 5 that gnashing teeth in a dream can be a sign of bruxism — involuntary compression and friction of teeth, which over time can lead to enamel damage, headaches and sleep disorders.

In June, dentist Anastasia Hritova told the Moscow City News agency that the younger generation was more likely to experience tooth decay due to stress and vitamin deficiencies. In particular, malocclusion and the habit of chewing pencils and pens lead to tooth damage.
