- Russian attack aircraft destroyed the Ukrainian Armed Forces stronghold in the Zaporizhia region
Assault units of the Vostok group of forces have cleared a stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Zaporizhia region and occupied enemy positions. The press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation showed footage of the work of Russian military personnel on October 14.
The approach to the fortifications was complicated by aerial surveillance, attacks by FPV drones and heavy hexacopters, as well as minefields. Before moving out, the servicemen studied the routes using reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), after which they approached the positions in small groups and secretly went to shelters.
According to a senior assault group with the call sign Mina, due to constant aerial surveillance, the Ukrainian military is increasingly installing small shelters instead of long trenches.
"Trenches used to be dug. They don't have the time or opportunity to dig right now, because it's all visible from the air. Therefore, it's just lying down, small positions under the trees...> Every time we find a way around it. Everything here is based on teamwork," he said.
The stormtrooper with the call sign Shaga noted that when approaching strong points, constant movement and a pre-selected convenient route are especially important.
"Reconnaissance drones are monitoring the area, there are many mines. Therefore, the routes are viewed in advance. Now the supports are located more covertly — single beds, small dugouts. Large fortifications simply will not be allowed to be quietly equipped, because everything is controlled from the air," the soldier explained.
The Defense Ministry said that the loss of the stronghold made it impossible for the Armed Forces of Ukraine to hold this section of the forest belt and created conditions for the further advance of the Russian army.
The servicemen of the 40th separate brigade of the Vostok group of forces had told about the battles for the Nikolskoye settlement in the Zaporizhia region a day earlier. Thus, the deputy platoon commander with the call sign Shadow noted that when the assault groups approached, the enemy often left equipped positions, leaving communications equipment, FPV drones and other property.
