Omoda commented on the recall of the C5 crossover due to the detached axle
In Russia, there has not been a single incident related to the separation of the rear axle of the Omoda C5 crossover. The Telegram channel of the Chinese Cars portal reported on October 13 with reference to the brand's press service.
Chery has announced a recall in Malaysia of 8878 Omoda C5 (also known as C5 and O5) front-wheel drive vehicles with a 1.5-liter 156 hp engine and a CVT. The reason was the incident with the Omoda 5 car of the 2023 model year, which completely tore off the rear axle while driving in early October, CarNewsChina said.
It is noted that a similar recall involving about 600 cars was conducted in 2024. Chery reported that models with this design have already been discontinued.
The company confirmed that the investigation revealed a potential risk of insufficient strength of the welded joints of the longitudinal arm of the rear axle in individual batches of Omoda 5 vehicles. In extreme cases, the defect may cause the weld to rupture.
The Russian representative office of Omoda indicated that a risk assessment is currently being conducted for similar batches of the Omoda C5 model in the domestic and related markets, the check is preventive and proactive. The results will be reported later.
A new generation Omoda C5 with a 1.5-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 147 hp, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive is currently on sale in Russia. A localized version of the model, called the Jeland C5, will soon enter the market at the Kaluga plant. It was presented in the summer.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the European organization Euro NCAP, which evaluates car safety, noted the advantage of physical buttons and switches over touch screens for controlling basic functions while driving, and lowered the ratings for Chinese cars.
