The amount of citizens' funds in savings accounts increased by 17% in January — September 2026. This segment has become the main driver of the savings market: savings accounts accounted for about 94% of the total increase in household funds in banks. This was reported by the VTB press service.

"There is still demand for both classic deposits and savings accounts, which are growing significantly more this year. They provide flexibility in managing funds and profitability comparable to promotional deposit rates. At the same time, we see a growing interest in long—term deposits — by the end of September, the share of customers depositing savings for a year or more exceeded 10%," said Roman Shaekhov, Deputy head of the bank's retail business unit.

In nine months, 1.5 trillion rubles were added to them, and the total volume approached 10.8 trillion, the bank estimated. A year earlier, over the same period, the increase was 13%.

In total, individual savings in banks increased by 2%, or 1.6 trillion rubles, and exceeded 67.4 trillion. Thus, about 94% of the market growth was provided by savings accounts.

According to experts, this tool attracts Russians by a combination of factors. Firstly, the ability to freely withdraw and replenish the account without losing previously accrued interest. Secondly, the profitability, which is comparable to the promotional rates on deposits. For example, VTB currently has a maximum savings account rate of 14.2%, the bank noted.

In addition, the variability of interest accrual conditions (for the minimum or daily balance) allows you to adjust the product to a personal savings scenario, VTB said.
