- Axios reported on the Pentagon's preparation of a plan for new massive strikes against Iran
The Pentagon has instructed the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM) to complete preparations for the possible resumption of large-scale hostilities against Iran, including launching massive airstrikes on the country's nuclear and energy infrastructure, if necessary. This was reported on October 7 by the Axios portal, citing sources.
"A few days ago, the Pentagon instructed CENTCOM to complete preparations for the resumption of large—scale hostilities against Iran," the publication says.
It is clarified that the document does not specify the exact timing of a possible strike, and US President Donald Trump has not yet decided on a final decision. However, sources in the United States and Israel admit that the operation may take place before the midterm elections in the United States, and possibly before the Israeli elections scheduled a week earlier.
On October 1, Trump allowed the resumption of bombing of Iran after the midterm congressional elections. He noted that Washington is ready to provide military assistance to its partners in the region.
On October 7, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance said that Tehran must take real steps regarding its uranium enrichment facilities in order to conclude an agreement with Washington. According to the American vice president, Washington does not intend to limit itself to the promises of the Iranian side.
