The CEC predicted attempts by the West to discredit the elections after the results
At the stage of counting votes and summarizing the election results, the Central Election Commission of Russia expects a new surge of attempts by Western intelligence agencies to discredit the results of the vote. This was announced on September 20 by CEC member Igor Borisov.
"At this stage, we expect another powerful surge of convulsions from the Western intelligence services with an attempt to discredit the people's choice," he said at the information center of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, broadcast on the Commission's website.
According to him, the upcoming stage must be carried out in full compliance with the law and reflect the will of the voters with maximum accuracy. At the same time, Borisov noted that the current election campaign is going on quite calmly. Some minor deviations, according to him, are promptly eliminated.
In turn, Vasily Piskarev, chairman of the State Duma commission to investigate foreign interference in Russia's internal affairs, said that Western countries used the 2026 election campaign to stimulate the protest movement in Russia. According to his forecasts, in the future, these forces are planned to be used in the presidential elections of the Russian Federation in 2030.
Piskarev also said that foreign expert and analytical structures from the United States, Great Britain and the European Union are involved in developing a strategy to increase social tension. In addition, according to him, in recent months, "an audit and re-accounting of anti-Russian emigrant and relocation structures located abroad has been carried out, as well as new training programs for conducting propaganda and agitation."
On September 20, the head of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Ella Pamfilova, indicated that more than 1,000 DDoS attacks had been recorded on Russia's electoral infrastructure, 124 of them on the remote electronic voting system (DEG). Most of the attacks came from abroad, including from the territories of Ukraine and the UK. In addition, the unified biometric system was also subjected to cyber attacks.
The Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, Yana Lantratova, added that despite all attempts from outside to disrupt the elections in Russia, the country has stood up, and voting is open and democratic. She noted that Russia has been able to maintain stability and continues to develop despite external pressure. The Ombudsman recalled that sanctions had been imposed against the Russian Federation, but the country had coped.
